Rainbow families

Colorful daycare centers - strong children

The state government promotes the acceptance and equality of families with same-sex parents.

Experience family diversity in child daycare

Rainbow families are defined as families in which at least one parent sees themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transsexual. As the first institution where children regularly interact with other children in social groups, daycare centers often play an important role in strengthening children from rainbow families at an early age. Here, children should be given the opportunity to engage with family diversity, learn about alternative family concepts and recognize them as equal.

The information portal www.kitas.regenbogenfamilien-nrw.de/ provides more background information and material for professionals in the field of early childhood bonding and education.

Empowerment for rainbow families

Family is always an adventure. For rainbow families and their children, the adventure is perhaps even greater. The vielfältig e.V. association has published a brochure that supports rainbow parents in working with educational professionals and childminders to shape childcare in such a way that diversity is seen as an enrichment.

The empowerment brochure "Wir sind dabei! - Resources and skills for rainbow families in childcare" provides information, gives suggestions, answers questions, recommends suitable books and lists contact details for specialist advice centers.
