The children of today are the climate protectors of tomorrow.

Habits and climate-friendly behavior such as separating waste, saving energy and avoiding food waste are already formed in childhood. That's why children and adolescents experience exactly that with climate education: they learn with and from each other, share and question. Sustainable behavior is practiced at an early age and thus becomes a topic in the family and with friends - because there is no minimum age for climate protection.

Award for KlimaKita.NRW
The topic of climate education is central to achieving the climate targets. It includes teaching skills for climate protection and climate change. People - both young and old - should be empowered to change their actions and, ideally, the actions of groups. This is why NRW.Energy4Climate GmbH is bringing the topic to the climate protectors of tomorrow, the children of kindergartens and daycare centers in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with the KlimaKita.NRW program.
With this program, Energy4Climate primarily addresses children of kindergarten age as well as the staff employed to provide support in playfully exploring the topic of climate protection, experiencing and learning about their own options for action. The facilities can receive an award for their commitment and thus show that, as KlimaKita.NRW, they have the future of children in mind, set a good example and act as multipliers at various levels. The daycare centers that strive for an award can take advantage of further training opportunities for specialists in the daycare center sector and receive free material (two practical manuals, an information book, a memo game, an instruction set for experiments). After a successful application for the award, the commitment is honored at an award ceremony. An award plaque with the state coat of arms for the façade will be presented as well as a certificate and a small surprise for the children

Climate gear
Climate protection is complex, intertwined and affects us all. That's why we can't make just one person in an institution responsible for tackling this important issue - together we can achieve more! This is also what the picture motif of the climate gang stands for: as a versatile team and well equipped with bin tongs, magnifying glasses and calculators, the climate gang is committed to climate protection.
Upon receiving the award, the facilities receive permission to use the badge in their communication.
