Right of choice: How parents register their needs
We explain to you here:
- What does the parents' right to choose mean?
- How do you register your childcare needs?
- What is important when registering?
- Where can you get help and advice?
What is the parents' right of choice?
There are different daycare facilities for children.
The short form is: Kitas.
For example:
- Kitas are different sizes.
- They are located in different places.
- The groups in the daycare center are different.
- The daycare centers work with children differently.
This means:
As parents, you have a say in
which daycare center your child should attend.
This is called the right to request and choose.
Perhaps you would like a daycare center in a different location?
Then the parents must say so early on.
Maybe there is a free place at the other location.
How do you register your childcare place?
You want a place in a daycare center or child day care center.
Then you have to tell the Youth Welfare Office.
You have to do this 6 months in advance.
You have to do this in writing.
This is called a needs assessment.
You can also submit the needs assessment online.
The youth welfare office has a program for this.
The youth welfare office will then send you a confirmation.
The confirmation states:
- You have registered.
- This is how much money you have to pay.
About 6 weeks in advance you will find out:
Your child will get a place at the daycare center.
What is important when registering?
You must register with the youth welfare office.
But the notification of need is not the registration at the daycare center or with the daycare provider.
This means:
You must also register at the daycare center or with the child's daycare provider.
Where can you get help and advice?
If you have any questions about the notification of need,
you can go to the youth welfare office in your town or city.
The youth welfare office will help you register.
Don't know where the nearest youth welfare office is?
Then you can use the Youth Welfare Office search on our website.
You can use the search to find the relevant youth welfare office.
