"Climate Detectives" Prevention Project

Health and the Environment in Preschool

Over the course of a kindergarten year, children ages 3 to 6 learn in a playful way how their own actions can positively impact the health of the planet and humanity.

Background of the Program

The consequences of climate change will pose a growing health challenge for everyone in the future. Children, in particular, are a vulnerable group that will be heavily exposed to its negative effects. Given this issue, it is essential to raise children’s awareness of the interplay between the environment and health at an early age.  The Children’s Health Foundation has therefore developed the prevention program “Climate Detectives—Health and the Environment in Preschool” in cooperation with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK).

Program Content and Objectives

With the “Climate Detectives,” children between the ages of three and six can learn about the connections between planetary and human health. Through engaging games and experiments, preschoolers are made aware of the importance of an environmentally conscious and health-promoting lifestyle, and their sense of personal responsibility regarding environmental protection and health is specifically encouraged. Participating preschools receive a free, high-quality, scientifically developed resource kit containing detailed educational activities, worksheets, and exciting experiments and game ideas.

Free Order

On the “Klimaspürnasen website” interested institutions from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia can register for free and order the resource folders.
