Working in the daycare center

Working in the daycare center

Are you interested in working in a childcare facility?
This is possible with many qualifications!

In accordance with Section 28 (1) of the Child Education Act (KiBiz), the pedagogical staff in daycare facilities

  • should be social education specialists,
  • other specialists and
  • supplementary staff

. Who these are is regulated in the Ordinance on the Principles of Qualifications and the Staffing Ratio (Personnel Ordinance).

An overview of all professional groups that can be counted towards the so-called minimum staffing value in daycare centers in accordance with the Personnel Ordinance can be found in the "Positive list for the Personnel Ordinance". This includes not only educators and childhood educators, but also many other professions. A cross-entry with other pedagogical training or as a profile-relevant employee is also possible.

Foreign educational qualifications

You can also work as educational staff in North Rhine-Westphalia's daycare centres with a foreign qualification.

If you want to work in a state-regulated profession (e.g. "state-recognized educator"), you must go through a professional recognition procedure and have your qualification recognized. Further information on this can be found on the page Recognition of foreign educational qualifications in the social and educational professions.

However, a formal professional recognition procedure is often not necessary at all. For example, it is also possible to work on the basis of a foreign degree (Bachelor's, Master's or Diploma) (Section 2 (6) PersVO). The question of whether a degree exists within the meaning of the Personnel Ordinance can be answered via a certificate assessment from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder (KMK) or via a positive entry in the "anabin" database. You can find further information on proof of graduation via anabin in the document "Handreichung zur Handhabung von anabin".
